PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition Release and Changes

PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition Release and Changes

PMBOK® Guide Sixth Edition is coming! As per PMI, the latest edition of the PMBOK® Guide is scheduled to be released September 6th, 2017.

What is the PMBOK® Guide?

  • PMBOK is an acronym for Project Management Body of Knowledge.
  • The PMBOK® Guide is a collection of processes and knowledge areas that are accepted as standards within the project management industry.
  • The PMBOK® Guide is updated every four years. The PMP exam changes shortly after to reflect new material.
    • The PMP exam is not strictly a test on the PMBOK® Guide. However, the PMBOK® Guide is considered a key resource for the exam.

What does the new release mean for prospective PMPs?

  • The exam is slated to reflect Sixth Edition material in Q1 of 2018. Therefore, if you are taking the exam before January 2018, continue studying the PMBOK® Guide Fifth Edition. If you plan to take the exam after January 2018, study the PMBOK® Guide Sixth Edition.
